WELSH SCHOOLS’ FA/WELSH FOOTBALL TRUST PARTNERSHIP
During its Centenary Year 2011 each of the Officers of the Welsh Schools’ Football Association (WSFA) donated a trophy for various competitions and festivals organised by the Association. The trophies to be retained by the school or Association. John Mann the Disability Football Officer f the WSFA donated a trophy to be awarded to a school demonstrating outstanding commitment to disability football.
The major festival for disability football was organised earlier in the year by the Welsh School’s FA/Welsh Football Trust Partnership.
The John Mann Trophy was awarded to Cedewain School, Newtown.
In giving his reasons for making the award to Cedewain School Jamie Clewer the Development Programmes Manager of the Welsh Football Trust stated. “The award was made to Cedewain School because of the following:
- Outstanding Commitment and Development – the school have brought the same small group of players (6-8) for a number of years. They have grown as a team and as individual footballers, the first year of entering some players were 3 or 4 years younger than their opponents. This achievement was confirmed when they won the U14 C band competition this year being unbeaten after winning three games and drawing one.
Fair Play – The team have always exhibited outstanding fair play, never once letting their heads drop when they have lost matches. The players playing the game with smiles on their faces and supporting and helping opponents when injured or upset.
David Nickless the Chairman of the Welsh Schools’ FA added. “The whole of the Disability Football Festival was a great occasion for the players and the spectators. The players from all of the participating schools played with enthusiasm and great sporting spirit win, lose or draw and they all completely enjoyed the experience. I congratulate pupils and staff of Cedewain School on their achievement and I look forward to meeting up with many of them at this season's festivals. As Jamie Clewer stated the school through its pupils and staff certainly epitomise all that is good about children’s football.”
The award was presented to the school by David Nickless, Chairman of the WSFA prior to a Welsh National Development game at Under 15 level at the The Venue Stadium, Oswestry the home of TNS.

Change Of Chairman 2010-2012
At the Annual General Meeting of the WSFA 10th July 2010 David Nickless of the Flintshire Primary Schools FA was elected as the Chairman for the period July 2010 to July 2012, taking over from Jim Flynn. David said, "It is a great honour for me and for the Flintshire Primary Schools' FA for me to be elected to the Chair for the period which involves the Centenary of the WSFA."
Schools football has been the bedrock of player participation and development for countless years. The Welsh Football Trust has recognised the importance of this by forming a strong partnership with the governing body for schools football, the Welsh Schools Football Association, to offer financial and professional support for the activities it undertakes, including most importantly, the National teams and Development squads.
We also offer schools throughout Wales a programme of support to attract the interest of young players to the game and assist teachers in establishing football in the curriculum, as well as after school clubs and festivals for pupils to play competitive games. This hopefully will lead them to further their interest and play on a more regular basis by joining a local junior club.
