Afan Nedd News

Ryan And Pike Receive Welsh Development Squad Call-Up

Congratulations to Aaron Ryan & Josh Pike on their selection into the U16 Wales international development squad.
Both players will join up with around 30 players selected from the whole of North and South Wales including eligible players who play in England with Welsh parents or grandparents.
Aaron and Josh will meet up with the rest of the 30 man international squad for a 3 day training camp which is behind closed doors commencing mid Jan 2009. Their long journey started some two years ago when both players were selected to the regional South Wales squad where they would meet up on many 1 day training camps over this period.
Both players recently represented South Wales playing the North Wales regional squad and Bristol City. The aim for both players is go that extra mile and get into the Victory Shield squad next September 2009.
Prior to the Victory Shield, both players will be aiming to get into the Welsh National Development U15 Squad who will play in a number of non capped games scheduled March - May 09.
It is a long road and we wish both players all the very best for the next 9 months and hopefully they will go all the way and appear in the next Victory Shield squad which is featured live on Sky Sports.
Their achievements to date have been fantastic of which both players can be proud.
We at Afan Nedd are very proud and wish them both the best of luck on their journey and hope these young men can go on and fulfil their dreams of playing and representing Wales in the near future.

Pike And Ryan Do It Again

Current Afan Nedd players Josh Pike (Swansea City FC) and Aaron Ryan ( Port Talbot Town)
have once again been called up for the second time by the Welsh National development u16's squad.
Both players are expected to join up with approx 30 players on a 4 day training camp behind closed doors commencing early March.
These young players are now fighting for a place in a squad to travel to Switzerland in April 09.

We wish the boys best of luck.

Wales’ most promising young football players will represent our country as part of a four day friendly international tournament in Switzerland.
Our congratulations to Josh Pike an Afan Nedd year 1994 player on his selection to represent Wales in the above tournament.

The first match is scheduled against the home nation Switzerland on Tuesday 14th April before playing Belgium (15th), and travelling home the following day.
Josh has been a regular of the South Wales Regional development squad for the past 2 and half years, more recently was his selection for 2 WFA Trust training camps which was behind closed doors.
Approx 50 boys were selected from the whole of Wales together with eleigible players from across the border who attend the camps before his final selection in a 17 player squad who will travel to Switzerland.

An experience Josh will never forget, his hard work, committment, attitude and desire has certainly played a huge part in his selection.

Manager and Welsh Football Trust Technical Director Osian Roberts is looking forward to seeing how his young protégés play competitively, and is keen to watch their developments alongside their European counterparts, as stated on Welsh Football trust web site.

Also on WFA Trust web site - Osian Roberts said:

"There are a number of very promising talents emerging from the development squad that is heading to Switzerland.
It will be a challenging time for the boys involved, but a great lesson which I am certain will help them to progress and develop with the end aim of creating a side which can confidently compete on the international stage in future years."

We at Afan Nedd wish Josh all the very best for forthcoming trip to Switzerland and hope this is the start of a very bright future for a very committed player.
